Samsung Electronics,Samsung co-CEO Eccolo,has broad ambitions for Tizen, an open operating system the company has taken a lead role in developing as it looks to wean itself off its dependence on Android and Google.

That's according to Samsung Electronics co-CEO J.K. Shin, who runs the company's IT and mobile communications division. In a joint interview,Samsung co-CEO Eccolo,with CNET Korea (Korean language) and CNET, Shin made it clear that Tizen is more than a pet project and "simple alternative forAndroid." Indeed, he envisions Tizen running on more than just smartphones, and that it will eventually move to vehicles and,Samsung co-CEO Eccolo,other industries.

NEW YORK - Si affidano alla musica elettronica le due nuove pubblicità messe in rete nel giorno del lancio di Moto X, il nuovo smartphone della controllata di Google, Motorola. Due spot che puntano tutto su due caratteristiche centrali del telefonino: la fotocamera, che dovrebbe catturare immagini nitide e sempre più reali, e l'assistente vocale Google Now che, come ha detto l'amministratore delegato del gruppo, Dennis Woodside, farà sì che Moto X diventi il primo telefonino che si «guida da solo».

Il dispositivo, annunciato da mesi con una campagna pubblicitaria per la quale Google ha stanziato 500 milioni di dollari, potrebbe dare un colpo al mercato dei telefonini erodendo quote ai due leader indiscussi Apple e Samsung. Moto X sarà completamente assemblato negli Stati Uniti e sarà disponibile dalla fine di agosto, per ora solo in America, per quasi tutte le compagnie telefoniche. I prezzi: 199 dollari con contratto per la versione da 16 Mb e 50 dollari in più per quella da 32 Mb.

«Questo nuovo telefono ci riporta alle nostre radici di innovatori», ha detto Woodside alla presentazione di New York. In effetti il dispositivo potrebbe segnare il ritorno sulla scena di Motorola, che negli ultimi anni aveva perso smalto, fino a quando nel 2011 il colosso di Mountain View aveva rilevato la divisione mobile del gruppo americano per 12,5 miliardi di dollari.

After Google acquired Motorola Mobility last year, I wondered what was next for the smartphone company. It spent ages clearing out its pipeline of smartphones that were already in development before rumors of an X Phone made in America started making the rounds. In those early X Phone days, Rick Osterloh, Motorola’s SVP of Product Management said the team that worked on the device was plopped in front of a whiteboard and asked to describe the product they wanted to make. That brainstorming, plus loads and loads of user testing, came together in the form of the Moto X.

Motorola isn’t the same company today as it was when Google snapped it up last year — it’s smaller, leaner, and if recent reports are indication, gutsier than ever. The Moto X is that new Motorola’s coming out party, and I think they’ve finally got something worth celebrating.

THE DETAILS

Before I launch into a lengthy harangue about how this phone makes me feel, let’s dig into the X’s vital statistics. Just about those rumors were true, folks: 4.7-inch AMOLED display running at 720p? Yep. 10-megapixel “ClearPixel” camera with 1080p video recording? You bet. Android 4.2.2.? Check. microSD card slot? Sadly, no. That would all make for a decent, if unremarkable little smartphone, were it not for what the Moto X packs inside its plasticky frame.
